Missions Ministry

Galatians missions-ministry-20156:6 states “Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches” (ESV). Haymarket Baptist Church supports a broad spectrum of mission work with our weekly tithes and offerings. At present, 12% of our church budget is designated to support local and foreign missions. We are proud to partner with the following groups:

Virginia Baptist Mission Board
The mission board is the mission agency of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV). The BGAV is an association of Baptist churches across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The mission board carries out many ministries, including the following: it provides support services to Baptist churches in Virginia; it supports several colleges and seminaries; it provides funds for new church plantings; it carries out mission work in Virginia and the surrounding areas; and it helps to coordinate relief work when natural disasters strike in various places around the globe.

Northstar Church Network
This agency mirrors the work of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, but carries it out at the local level, specifically in the Northern Virginia area.

Baptist World Alliance
This agency’s work mirrors that of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board, but is carried out at the global level of ministry.

Lottie Moon Missions Offering
This offering is supported all year long through our budget allocations, but is highlighted and augmented with a special collection at Christmas time. The Lottie Moon offering is part of Southern Baptist Convention that supports the work of foreign missionaries. It is named for a Virginia Baptist woman, Lottie Moon, who served as a missionary in China during the latter portion of the 1800s.

Annie Armstrong Missions Offering
As with the Lottie Moon offering, our annual support of this effort through tithes and offerings is augmented by a special emphasis and collection at Easter time. It is an offering of the Southern Baptist Convention that supports the work of missionaries in North America. It is named for a Southern Baptist woman named Annie Armstrong (1850-1938) who led Baptists in their support of mission work.

CBF Global Missions Offering
This offering supports the work of missionaries across the globe under the auspices of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). As with the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong offerings, it is supported throughout the year with our weekly tithes and offerings.

Baptist Pastors in Nepal
We provide direct financial support of the work of three Baptist ministers in Nepal as they plant and grow churches in that country. The Baptist World Alliance helped establish the link between the Haymarket Baptist Church and these ministers who serve under the organization of the Nepal Baptist Church Council.
