MISSIONS GIVING AT HAYMARKET BAPTIST CHURCH

We support a broad spectrum of mission work with our tithes and offerings. At present, 10% of the church budget is designated to support missions. We support the following church groups and collections.

Virginia Baptist Mission Board – The mission board is the mission agency of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV). The BGAV is an association of Baptist churches across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The mission board carries out many ministries, including the following: it provides support services to Baptist churches in Virginia; it supports several colleges and seminaries; it provides funds for new church starts; it carries out mission work in Virginia and beyond; and, it helps to coordinate relief work when natural disasters strike in various places around the globe.

Northstar Church Network – This agency mirrors the work of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board but carries it out at the local level of the Northern Virginia area.

Baptist World Alliance – This agency’s work mirrors that of the Virginia Baptist Mission Board described above, but is carried out at the global level of ministry.

Lottie Moon Missions Offering – This offering, supported all year long through our budget allocations, is highlighted and augmented with a special collection at Christmas time. It is an offering of the Southern Baptist Convention that supports the work of foreign missionaries. It is named for a Virginia Baptist woman, Lottie Moon, who served as a missionary in China during the latter portion of the 1800s.

Annie Armstrong Missions Offering – As with the Lottie Moon offering, our annual support of this effort through tithes and offerings is augmented by a special emphasis and collection at Easter time. It is an offering of the Southern Baptist Convention that supports the work of missionaries in North America. It is named for a Southern Baptist woman named Annie Armstrong (1850-1938) who led Baptists in their support of mission work.

CBF Global Missions Offering – This offering supports the work of missionaries across the globe under the auspices of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). As with the Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong offerings, it is supported throughout the year with our weekly tithes and offerings.

Baptist Pastors in Nepal – We provide direct support of the work of Baptist ministers in Nepal as they plant and grow churches in that country. These funds are passed through the Baptist World Alliance which helped establish the link between the church and these ministers.

This June, Tyler Gass will participate with a VBMB team in sharing God’s love at the 2010 World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Tyler will depart on  June 23  and return on July 7, 2010.  Tyler and his team will use the internationally loved sport of soccer as an opportunity to share Christ with South Africans and visitors from around the world.  The team will work directly under the supervision of South African Baptists and other Christian denominations and groups.  For more information, visit The Ultimate Goal web site at www.theultimategoal.co.za

This is the second mission to South Africa that our church has sponsored in the last year!  Please keep Tyler and his team in your prayers as they minister to soccer fans from around the world!

Calling gardeners of all ages!!!

HBC is sponsoring a church garden this summer and we need you!  Our garden is sure to be a great outreach to our community and a wonderful way to grow together as we get our hands dirty caring for God’s creation.  The soil has been prepared and the seeds and plants are in the ground.  Be sure to visit the garden located behind the church playground.  There is still plenty to do in the garden – weeds to pull, plants to water, and eventually produce to pick!  Please contact Vicki Bayol to volunteer.

All garden produce will be given to those in our community who will benefit the most from our veggies.  Among the recipients include the residents at Transitional Housing BARN, INC.  www.barninc.org
