Missio Dei
Haymarket Baptist Church seeks to be the presence of Christ both in Haymarket and around the world. We believe that every member is a minister of God.
Simply put, Missio Dei means God’s Mission. As Christians we believe God is actively at work in all his creation to bring about redemption and wholeness in the world. God is always inviting his people to be about his mission in the world. It is our task to be about identifying his work and joining him there. Haymarket Baptist looks to do this in two ways
1) By looking for mission activities in which the church as a whole can participate
2) Equipping our congregation to identify God at work in their lives and join him
Missio Dei is foundational to our church, thus, it impacts all we do. Whether gathering for Bible Study, doing missions, or gathering to worship, we seek to better understand our relationship with God and with the world in which we live. It is our hope that in all we do, we will seek to join God in his Mission.

Serving Haymarket Since 1894
Haymarket Baptist Church was born in 1894 out of the dream of twenty-eight members of our mother church, Antioch Baptist. The first church building, constructed at the present location, opened in 1895. The interior consisted of a sanctuary and three small classrooms. At various times, as the church grew, more facilities were added. As the community of Haymarket has experienced tremendous growth the past several years, the church is currently making plans for the expansion of both its sanctuary building and its ministry programming.
Governed by the congregational form of polity, the church has been served by twenty-three ministers during its existence. The present pastor, Dr. Charles D. Stewart, began his ministry at the church in April of 2007. Assisting the pastor in his work is the Deacon body, composed of men and women specially called out for this service. As every member is considered a minister of Christ, the church relies on the congregation to carry out the ministry of the church through its committee work and Sunday school program.
Worship is an important part of the life of Haymarket Baptist Church. The pastor and other worship leaders give much time and attention to the Sunday service. Their aim is to truly bring the people before the Almighty to hear his word. The church embraces a traditional style of worship with an incorporation of seasonal emphases from the tradition of the Christian year.
Haymarket Baptist Church operates on the free-will offerings of its members, with a primary emphasis in its giving directed to missions. At present, eighteen percent of un-designated receipts is distributed in support of the following mission agencies and efforts: Baptist General Association of Virginia; NorthStar Church Network; Lottie Moon Offering; Annie Armstrong Offering; Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Global Mission Offering; Baptist World Alliance; Pastors in Nepal. The philosophy of the congregation with respect to its strong commitment to missions is that the church grows more deeply spiritual the more deeply committed it is to missions, both locally and world-wide.
